Knowledge and skill is a gift. It transcends through us. If were lucky, we get to bless those around us with those gifts. There are so many ways.
Listen to the tips and tricks of others. Especially of those who have been around the block. When I started #TritonWindowCleaning, I wanted to be the best window cleaning company in the Nashville area. Well, this could mean a variety of different things. Does this mean the largest, or perhaps the best quality, or even the most profitable?
Along the way, I worked for others. Rather than go to work, clean windows, come home, go to work, #cleanwindows, go home, go to work clean, windows, #pressurewashing, #guttercleaning, come home, on and on, I did something special. I watched how they conducted business. I learned and studied. I asked questions and more importantly, I ruffled some feathers.
Some of my bosses had experience. Others, just owned a business. The ones who worked in the business, were much more passionate about "#theprocessofwindowcleaning." The others, were more about production or sales. Some were stubborn and set in there ways, and some just did not care unless there was a check in the bank with there name on it.
Each one had something to teach me. I'll highlight just a few. First, if someone has a great talent and something to show, or can help you improve, swallow that pride and respect that they might be better. You can take twenty years to learn a lesson. Or listen to the knowledge of someone who has the key and save yourself years of heartache. BTW your lesson can come from anyone, they might be way less experience or just a kid in your eyes. Do not be prideful.
Second, do everything you can to make sure that your business is strong. This could mean taking care of your employee(s). Keeping your business fed is important. It is impossible to stay successful, if your mediocre in your business. If you do not have the desire to get up daily and give your business your all, you have no business in your business. Sell it or outsource the work.
Lastly, Set goals and keep pushing forward! Get the right people on the bus and keep them. Whatever your business is will attract talent. The trick is to find that talent. They will be happy because that fits with them. And they will stay happy if you listen to them and continue to improve not for just you or your business sake, but for their sake as well.
